Looked out on the fields of gold
Daffodil and marigold
Memories to have and to hold
From back when I was home

Morning chores before it’s hot
Forget-me-nots that I forgot
Happiness didn’t cost a lot
Back when I was home

Chorus
Traded the simple life / gave up on my grass roots
Hung up my overalls and bought expensive suits
Moved to the city to impress the powers that be
But it just hasn’t grown on me

Drinking water from the hose
Wet grass underneath my toes
Came out smelling like a rose
Back when I was home

A little rain would be okay
Adding dew to my display
I cherished every single day
Back when I was home

Chorus

Colors of the columbine
And morning glories on the vine
They all want the sun to shine
I need to get back home

Chorus
Traded the simple life / gave up on my grass roots
Hung up my overalls and bought expensive suits
Moved to the city to impress the powers that be
But it just hasn’t grown…
Never felt so all alone
It just hasn’t grown on me
Yeah, it just hasn’t grown on me.
